THE HARD TRUTH

●There are over 59.5 million displaced persons around the world

●80% of the world’s refugees are women and children

●Refugees have less than a 0.5% chance of being resettled

  • About 4 million Syrians are outside their own country

  • Almost 8 million more are displaced within Syria

  • The Canadian Government is committed to bringing 25,000 refugees to Canada in the next few months.

  • 25,000 more will follow in 2016.

  • We are all members of the Global village and need to help.

The Kimberley Refugee Resettlement Group was formed in November 2015 as a community response to the Syrian refugee crisis.

The short term purpose of the group is to provide funding and resettlement support in Kimberley to one or two Syrian families from the Government Assisted Refugee program currently underway.

In the longer term we expect:

  • to provide similar assistance to other refugee families from Syria or elsewhere,

  • as funding permits, to also offer assistance to improve the conditions in the refugee camps around the World.

  • to champion refugee issues in our community, fostering diversity, respect, understanding and tolerance while becoming global citizens

The Program

We also recommend viewing this video from November 2014 which explains why improving the conditions in the Camps and providing education is so vital to reducing the violence creating so many refugees.
